How to Apply for an Internship at IEX

Interested in Interning at IEX? Here’s what you need to know.

At IEX, interns are part of the team from the start.

Whether you’re interested in software engineering, business development, quantitative research, marketing, or strategy and operations, as an intern at IEX you are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while helping to solve real-world problems for investors.

We’re committed to creating an internship experience that supports your growth and learning goals. We value people who take initiative, approach challenges with creativity, and collaborate with others. Our culture is guided by our Team Standards: Think Big and Do Good, Be Gritty, Win Together, and Invent and Reinvent.

Interested in applying? Here’s a closer look at how to prepare for the internship application process at IEX.

Step One:  Learn about IEX

Take time to research IEX’s mission, technology, culture, history, and current initiatives. We are always building and we appreciate candidates who are genuinely curious about the company, familiar with our latest work, and understand what makes IEX unique.

You should also familiarize yourself with:

·      IEX’s core values and Team Standards

·      Current company initiatives and products

·      The role and team you’re applying for

Step Two: Build a standout resume

Make sure your resume is polished, up to date, free of grammatical errors, and has not simply been fed into ChatGPT.

You should highlight experiences or results from applicable prior internships or work that demonstrate leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, initiative, and growth mindset.

That might look like showing examples from your course work, group projects, internships, part-time jobs, student organizations, research, or personal projects to show who you are, what you’re interested in, and how your work makes an impact.

While finance majors or similar can be helpful, it’s not required to apply. We value candidates from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds.

Step Three: Submit your application

Visit our Careers page to explore open internship opportunities. Applications for our summer internship program are typically open in early September  and are reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled for the following summer.  We encourage candidates to apply early.

To apply, you’ll need to submit:

·      Your resume

·      Contact information

·      Responses to application questions

Cover letter and recommendation letters are optional.

Authenticity matters at IEX. When responding to application questions, submitting your resume or optional cover letter, we expect you to use AI judiciosuly. We want to hear your voice, learn about your experiences, and understand why you’re excited about the opportunity to intern at IEX.

Step Four: Get ready for the interview

If selected to move forward, you’ll hear from a recruiter to begin the interview process. Interviews may be conducted virtually or onsite depending on your location.

The process generally includes:

·      An introductory conversation with a recruiter

·      A hiring manager interview

·      Team interviews

·      A final interview round

For technical roles, candidates may also complete coding exercises or technical assessments.

Tips for standing out

1. We want to meet candidates who are excited about learning, growing, and contributing at IEX. Showing interest, demonstrating curiosity, and knowledge about our business and mission goes along way.

2. We’re interested in more than just your resume. So be yourself, and be prepared to talk about experiences, challenges, projects, and interests that have shaped who you are.

3. Learning about the people you’ll meet can help you have more meaningful conversations. Take some time to research your interviewers.

4. Interviews are a two-way conversation. Come prepared with your specific questions about the role, team, culture, and intern experience.

If given the opportunity to interview onsite, we encourage you to take it. It’s a great way to experience our office culture and meet team members in person. (And have we mentioned the views of our office?!?!)
